I don’t think that there isn’t any person who doesn’t know the movie “back to the future”.. it is our childhood film from 80’s..
There was a well known scene that marty mcfly was playing “Johhny b. Goode” from Chuck Berry who is the master of Gibson Guitars and rock n’ roll of 50’s and 60’s.. while marty was playing “go johnny go go go”, the year was 1955.. and he was playing a Gibson ES335..
You can see the guitar that marty is playing below:
But this guitar was produced at 1958.. : )
I think the producer of the movie had choosed this guitar because of its excellent tone and sound.. you cannot get this excellent tone for this song, on every guitars.. so they had choosed this guitar knowingly.. but it was a funny situation with a guitarist eye as i said before..
When we had watched this movie as child, we didn’t recognize this mistake..
But now, with a guitarist eye, it is a funny movie mistake..
You can watch this scene from here and hear this excellent sound..
Marty mcfly (Michael j. Fox) is really playing this song.. he is not pretend to play guitar..
Think about a guitar that can convert from fretted situation to fretless.. It’s very easy to do that when you are playing the instrument. It uses a rounded facet in fretted mode and a flat facet in fretless mode. The principle behind the mechanism is a rotating fret.
Let’s see some videos how that frets work..
Convertible (Fretted/Fretless) Bass Guitar Demo
Convertible 6 String Electric Guitar
According to MIKEY GUITAR (the manufacturer of these instruments) These instruments do not need for maintenance or adjustment. the meterials used for making the frets are polished stainless steel for long life. The frets require no lubrication.
They have also had a stress test to prove the durability of the mechanism. The mechanism was hooked up between two solenoids and driven back and forth. A counter kept track of the cycles. The “clack clack” sound of the solenoids drove everyone nuts but, over the course of 8 weeks, the mechanism was cycled 1,000,581 times. That’s equal if you switch 20 time back and forth a day for about 137 years. there is no signs of wear in this observation.

Modulus 18-String Bass and Allen Woody
Modulus produced this 18- string bass for Tom Peterson in the beginning of 1980’s.The model was neck- through including a custom Stars Guitars brass bridge. According to modulus founder Geoff Gould, it is short 30 ½ scale. The neck is around 2 ¼ wide at the nut and around 3 ¾ wide at the 24th fret. This bass was cretaed around the same time that Petersson left Cheap Trick. Petersson is said not to like it and then it was shipped back to Modulus. Allan Woody got in touch with Modulus around that time and asked if an 18- string as the one you made for Tom Petersson could be built for him. When he was informed that the actual Petersson bass convinient, he became the new owner. He was stil holding it at the time of his death.
